Did You Know...

... that the Jack Russell breed was created by an Exonian?
John Russell (called Jack - or the Sporting Parson) matriculated in 1814 - while he was here, between fishing, rowing, hunting and taking boxing lessons, he spotted a milkman accompanied by the kind of dog he had always wanted: rough-coated, white with twin-eye patches and a sporty look. Russell immediately bought her from the man, and Trump became the foundation of the breed we now know as the Jack Russell.
Russell was ordained in 1820, but is rumoured to have spent little time with his parishioners, preferring to pursue his passions for fox hunting and breeding dogs. He is thought to have mixed in various other kinds of dog in his efforts to perfect his terriers, and by the time he died in his 80s, he had "set" the type for the Jack Russell Terrier.
