Retirement Lecture & Tea for Brian Stewart
28th June 2009
A lecture and tea in College marked the retirement of Dr Brian Stewart and provided a chance to recognise the tremendous contributions that Brian made to academics and life at Exeter. Over 65 people turned out to wish Brian well, including an Old Member who was at Brian’s first lecture and, by attending the event, also attended his last lecture.
Brian joined the College in 1965 as a Research Lecturer, and was the College's Pure Mathematics Tutor since 1967 when he was awarded the DPhil degree. Alongside this, Brian held a University Lectureship (CUF) in Mathematics, and in 1979 he became one of the two Editors of the Quarterly Journal of Mathematics. During his time at Exeter, he taught over 250 students and held various other posts such as Sub-Rector, Senior Tutor and Finance and Estates Bursar.
