Alumni from 1970-74 enjoy Demi-Decade Day

Exeter College was delighted to welcome back alumni from the 1970-74 with their guests for the first Demi-Decade Day on Saturday 27th June.

The day programme was started with a welcome from the Rector followed by a short talk from Professor Jim Hiddleston (Emeritus Fellow in French) who reminded us all what life in Exeter was like before the arrival of women. The rest of the day provided opportunities to catch up with friends, hear about the current research of Fellows, explore the medieval history of the College and sample the College wines. The gloriously sunny weather continued into the evening and alumni enjoyed hearing from the Chapel Choir who sang from their repertoire for their forthcoming trip to Germany including music as diverse as Thomas Tallis and John Rutter.

Over dinner, the Rector reiterated his welcome to alumni and their guests and contrasted the success of the football Cuppers team in 1974 with the hopeful future success of the Boat Club. Our speaker at the evening banquet was Mark King (1974, Modern History and Modern Languages) who had been so generous with his time helping develop the programme for the day.

The next Gaudy for the 1970-74 year group will be in the September of 2020 with the next (renamed) “Grand Gaudy” in June 2025.
