Rector Cairncross leaves Exeter in style

Rector Frances Cairncross, who retired as head of Exeter College on 30 September, left the College in style last night in a 1931 Rolls-Royce Barker Bodied 20/25 Town Limousine.

Students, Fellows and staff came to wave her farewell as she pulled away in her cousin’s vintage car.

On leaving, Ms Cairncross said: “I am sad to be leaving this wonderful College after ten happy years. I have enormously enjoyed the friendship and support of the Fellows, alumni, staff and students.

“I am very happy to be leaving Exeter in the capable hands of Rick Trainor, and to be heading for an interesting new life in London and Scotland.”

Ms Cairncross will take up the role of Chair of Council at Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh at the end of the year. She is succeeded as Rector by Sir Rick Trainor, who will be officially sworn in on 1 October.

The whole Exeter community wishes Ms Cairncross well and we hope to see her often at future Exeter College events.
