Dining in College

Dining in Hall

Old Members are welcome to dine in Hall with up to five guests on Wednesday evenings in Full Term. They can opt for the student meal at £11.50 per person (including VAT) or a High Table meal, served in the body of Hall, at £23.52 (including VAT). When you contact us to sign in, we will send you the SCR daily wine list from which you can make a selection. Please note that there is an additional charge for coffee, and invoices will be sent in the post following the meal. College will make every effort to accommodate all bookings but cannot guarantee that specific dates will be available.

High Table

Please note that Dining Rights have changed as of 21 June 2010. Eligibility is no longer determined by possession of an MA, and Old Members can now bring one guest at their own expense.

Dining Rights are granted to all Old Members in good standing with the College from the term following the completion of their degree at Exeter. Visiting Students who have not matriculated and students who do not complete their degrees at Exeter will be offered Dining Rights either from the term following the completion of their degree at a recognised university or college or 12 terms after matriculation, whichever is the sooner*.

Dining Rights refer to the option to dine on High Table:

  • Once a year at the College's expense (but paying for wine and dessert**)
  • At two other times in different terms at their own expense**

Old Members may use these Dining Rights to dine Wednesdays and Sundays in Full Term (1st-8th week inclusive), which are guest nights when a wider variety of Fellows and other College guests will also be dining. (For a list of term dates, please click here.) Old Members may bring one guest to dinner at their own expense. Although there is no restriction on the number of Old Members dining on any one night, the College may have to sit larger groups in the body of Hall.

Old Members may arrive at the SCR at 7.15pm for dinner at 7.30pm on Sundays and at 7.00pm in the SCR for dinner at 7.15pm on Wednesdays. Those dining on Sunday are most welcome to attend evensong in the Chapel at 6.00pm. Dress is lounge suits on Wednesdays and black tie on Sundays; gowns are not obligatory.

* In order to take up their Dining Rights, Old Members must not be currently suspended from their course of study at Exeter, nor have been permanently sent down, nor have outstanding battels owed to the College. The College reserves the option to withhold or cancel or change these rights in any individual or general case at its sole discretion.

**As of October 2011, the price of a High Table meal is £23.52 with additional charges of: £5.10 for dessert, £9.72 for High Table wine and £5.76 for dessert wine. All prices are inclusive of VAT. Invoices will be sent in the post following the meal.
