Recognition

Exeter College is dedicated to treating its donors with the highest level of care and respect and to acknowledging all donations and recognising them accordingly. The Exeter College Donor Charter has been created to assure donors of the integrity and accountability of the Exeter College Development Programme.

At the heart of Exeter College lies the commitment to academic freedom. The College values and safeguards its autonomy and academic freedom, and does not accept gifts when a condition of such acceptance would compromise these fundamental principles.

Our donors have the following rights:

  • To be informed of the way we use donated resources
  • To be kept informed of the impact of their philanthropy and Exeter's evolving needs and priorities
  • To have access to the College's most recent published financial accounts
  • To be informed whether those seeking donations are volunteers or employees of Exeter College
  • To be assured that donors' rights to privacy will be respected and that there will be full compliance with the Data Protection Act 1998
  • To express a preference for which aspect of College life they would like their gift to support when donating to the Annual Fund
  • To be acknowledged promptly when the gift is received by the College
  • To speak to a member of the Development Office about the possibility of earmarking donations of £25k or more

Furthermore:

All donations to the Annual Fund will be:

  • Pooled and disbursed every year by a Committee made up of Old Members and College Staff (including the Accountant, Finance & Estates Bursar, and the Rector), taking into account the preferences of donors where expressed
  • Used to support College projects that would otherwise remain under-funded or impossible

All major gifts (of £25k or more) will:

  • Be used for the purposes agreed
  • Make the donor eligible to receive recognition as a Major Benefactor

Additionally, those who make a gift of £1,314 or more in a College financial year (1st August - 31st July) will be entitled to membership of the 1314 Society and those who inform the College that they have remembered Exeter in their Will are also entitled to special recognition.

Exeter College welcomes support from individuals (Old Members, Friends, Parents and Fellows), foundations, businesses and other organisations and would be delighted to discuss ways in which relationships may be fostered with potential benefactors. If you would like to discuss any aspect of the Donor Charter or other matters concerning making a gift to Exeter, please contact the Development Office
