When is the Library open?

The Library is open 24/7 during term time to all members of Exeter College.

How do I borrow a book from the Library?

The Library has a self-service loans system, located on the ground floor in the first alcove on the left facing down the library.  Instructions are on the screen. To borrow a book, scan your University card barcode and then scan the book barcode, usually to be found on the inside of the front cover. You can then print out a slip showing when the book is due for return.

How do I return a book to the Library?

Books are self-returned on the self-service system. Instructions are on the screen. To return a book scan the book barcode, usually to be found on the inside of the front cover. You can then print out a slip showing that you have returned the book. Please keep the slip as proof that you have returned the book. Put the book on the wooden trolley located nearby.

How do I ask for a book to be bought for the Library?

Check in SOLO that we don’t already have the book in the Library. Fill in the book suggestion form and then email it to the Exeter College Librarian or hand it to the Librarian.

I don’t understand how the books are filed on the shelves, can you explain?

The Library uses the Bliss classification system. Go to the Bliss Classification Association website if you want to find out more.

How many books can I borrow from the Library, and for how long?

Undergraduates can borrow up to 20 books for a period of 2 weeks during term, unless anyone requests one of those books back, when you will get an e-mail requesting its return. Up to 20 books can be borrowed for the whole vacation.

My swipe card doesn’t seem to work at the Library door

Try swiping it more than once and if it won’t give you access, go and check with the porters that your card is validated.

How do I renew my books?

You can renew your books online by going to OLIS, patron functions, where you will be asked for your patron barcode and password.

You may renew your books this way  up to 5 times.
