Accommodation & Facilities

Accommodation

All undergraduates live in College for their first year, in rooms on its historic central site, and many move back into College for their final year. Rooms in College vary enormously. Some are 17th century, some are modern. Some are shared sets of the traditional Oxford type, where students have their own bedroom, but share a study with another undergraduate. Other rooms are individual study bedrooms. Finalists (with their knowledge of the best views, how many steps to climb, etc.) get to choose their own rooms, whereas Freshers are assigned theirs by the College.

All rooms in college have an ethernet network connection, ensuring free internet access; and certain rooms also have phone sockets and en-suite facilities. Every room has its particular 'scout', to make sure that it remains clean and habitable through the term; and the friendliness and familiar faces of these members of staff make a tremendous contribution to the College's cheerful atmosphere.

Away from the main site, the College owns several houses, hostels and flats, most of them within a mile of the city centre. Rooms in these are available to second- and third-year undergraduates, and to graduate students. Thus just about all undergraduates who wish to can live in College accommodation for all three years of their course. Alternatively, there is a wide variety of private housing available for rent across the city. Most students find 'living out' to be a beneficial, rewarding and thoroughly enjoyable experience. All the College's central facilities remain available to students living out.

Food

Three meals a day are provided in Hall during term. There is the option at dinner of going to 'first hall' or to 'formal hall', where gowns are worn and the Senior Members of the College sit at 'high table'. Guests may be invited to all meals except breakfast. Snacks are available in the ever-popular bar. We are happy to make provision for vegetarians and students with other dietary preferences. All members of the College can eat in Hall and use the Bar, even if they are living outside College, and the Junior Common Room has a self-catering kitchen for student use.

Academic Facilities

All students have access to Exeter's excellent Library, with generous opening hours and over 40000 volumes.

Computing facilities are excellent within the College. There is a college computer room equipped with 14 PCs, wireless internet access covering the communal areas and professional computing staff to offer support and assistance as required.
