Research interests
I work primarily on prose fiction writing in the 17th and 18th centuries, focusing on publication history, issues of authorship and copyright, and the relationship between the romance and the novel. My first monograph examined the development of sequels by “other hands” in this period, and my current research studies early serial fiction more broadly. I am also interested in fictional endings, paratexts, and the reception of older romance texts in the 18th century, as well as women’s writing and correspondence.
Teaching areas
I teach English Literature 1550-1830 (Papers 3-5 and Shakespeare) for Exeter undergraduates and Williams College visiting students and supervise dissertations in this area, particularly relating to prose fiction, women’s writing, and the history of the book.
