Exeter College is one of the oldest colleges within the University of Oxford, but we are currently at a unique and exciting stage in our history following the recent opening (in January 2017) of a new residential site on Walton Street, in central Oxford. This new site – the Cohen Quad –is a modern and multi-functional facility combining all the academic traditions expected of an Oxford College with a highly successful national and international conference business.

The Front Desk (located in the main reception area) is at the heart of Cohen Quad, which is a busy venue hosting many of the College’s meetings, as well as commercial conferences and summer schools, private dinners and events, and a popular café which is open to the public. It is, therefore, a vibrant and exciting place to work, and the Front Desk is key to providing a professional, customer-focused and welcoming service to all students, staff and visitors, so that those using the Cohen Quad will leave with the best possible impression of Exeter College.

We are therefore seeking experienced Front Desk Staff to deliver this service, and to manage the flow of people through the reception area and ensure that all reception responsibilities are completed accurately, to a high quality, and in a timely manner.

Typical duties will include welcoming guests, handling check-in/ check-out procedures, directing visitors to meeting rooms, dealing with enquiries (in-person and by phone), taking payments, and overseeing security systems and acting as a first point of contact in emergencies.

These are busy, customer-facing roles, and it is therefore essential that you have excellent verbal communication skills, and a naturally friendly and helpful nature. You should also be hands-on in approach, with the ability to manage a varied workload under minimal supervision and a willingness to work flexibly as part of the wider team. Experience in a similar front-desk/ reception role is essential.

The salary for this post will be within a range £19,202 – £22,017 per annum, depending on skills and experience. In addition, the College offers a range of benefits including a generous annual leave allowance, contributory pension scheme, and a free meal whilst on duty.

A rotating shift pattern will be in operation, with all postholders working a mix of day, evening, and weekend shifts. The post is for 40 hours per week.
