Mark Sinfield -

Exeter College (part of the University of Oxford) is seeking to appoint a PA to the Bursars.

The Bursarial function oversees all aspects of the financial working of the College, as well as the daily implementation of College policies in relation to buildings, accommodation, staff, and our growing conference and summer school business. As such, this vacancy represents a fantastic opportunity to work in a busy and varied role at the heart of the organisation, where you will be one of the first points of contact for a wide range of students and staff, and will therefore be able to make a real contribution to the successful running of the College.

Within the role, the key duties will focus on providing a comprehensive administrative and secretarial support service to the two Bursars (the Finance & Estates Bursar, and the Domestic Bursar) and other senior managers, including full PA support and diary management. In addition, the postholder will service a number of College committees (attending meetings, producing minutes, preparing agendas, etc), and will support the Bursars in overseeing the administration of College-owned external properties.  The focus and activity of the College varies, sometimes unexpectedly, and you should be prepared to undertake a range of other general administrative duties as they arise.

To be successful, you will need experience in a similar PA / administration role working with senior managers, and should have a proven record of effective diary management and accurate minute-taking. Strong IT skills (including advanced knowledge of MS Outlook and Word, and an intermediate knowledge of Excel) are essential, as are excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and the ability to prioritise successfully and work to tight deadlines. Some experience of taking minutes using shorthand, and / or working in a College or University environment would be desirable. This post would suit a proactive and enthusiastic individual, who is highly organised and accurate in their work, and who is comfortable working on their own initiative and with minimal supervision.

Salary will be at a point on Grade 5 of the University’s Salary Scale (currently £27,131 to £32,348 per annum), depending on experience, skills and qualifications.

Benefits include a generous annual leave entitlement, contributory pension, free lunch whilst on duty, and optional membership of subsidised dental and / or healthcare schemes.
