Exonian launches ‘Opera in Conversation’

Zerlina Vulliamy (2017, Music) has launched a series of conversations with celebrated guest speakers from the music industry that you can watch online, as Costi Levy (2019, Philosophy and Spanish) reports.

During her time at Exeter, Zerlina Vulliamy (2017, Music) founded Oxford Contemporary Opera, which aims to make opera accessible for students at Oxford and beyond. In 2019, she organised the sell-out Oxford Contemporary Opera Festival and has just set up a series of virtual talks with celebrated guest speakers.

Opera in Conversation will run throughout November. Conversations with the Pulitzer prize winning composer, Anthony Davis, and international director, Barrie Kosky, have already gone ahead. These events are available to re-watch on the Oxford Contemporary Opera website.

The next event is a conversation with Master of Queen’s Music, Judith Weir, on 18 November, followed by a conversation with Director of Opera at the Royal Opera House, Oliver Mears, on 25 November. The series will end with a panel with various industry professionals on 30 November.

Each event, hosted by Zerlina, will take place over Zoom. The conversations will be livestreamed on the Oxford Contemporary Oxford website, and there will be a Q&A at the end of every talk, which audience members can submit questions to.
