The Course
The physics course covers all aspects of physics, beginning with basic tools such as mechanics and electromagnetic theory, and going on to more advanced subjects such as quantum physics. The central core of the course is taken by all students, but there is room for flexibility in a wide choice of further papers covering aspects of physics and its connection to other subjects. Examinations take place at the end of every year. There is both a three- and a four-year course. Applicants may apply for either; the final decision between these courses is typically made during the 2nd or 3rd year. The 4th year is intended as a preparation for research; it includes project work and special subjects involving advanced study in fields closely related with current research in Oxford. Careers
The subsequent careers of Exeter Physics graduates form a very wide spectrum. Most fall into one of three broad groups: (i) work in industry or in management consultancy; (ii) commerce, either directly or following professional training, for example in accountancy; (iii) research for a higher degree in Oxford or elsewhere.
