Exeter College alumnus publishes the first guidebook to International Universities

Exeter alumnus Dr Richard Major (1989, Theology) has published The First Guidebook to International Universities, a new illustrated guide for American students considering studying for a degree outside the United States.

Bringing together 101 recommended universities across Europe, Asia, Australia, Canada, Latin America and beyond, the book explores opportunities for students to study in English at leading institutions around the world, often completing a degree at a far lower cost than in the US.

As well as offering recommendations on where and what to study, The First Guidebook to International Universities looks at what student life is like in different cities, how international admissions processes work and how overseas degrees are regarded by American graduate schools and employers. Dr Major hopes the guide will help students and their families navigate the range of options available and consider universities and destinations they might otherwise overlook.

The guidebook marks a departure from Dr Major’s previous publications, which have included novels, short stories and political satire. His novel Quintember, following the exploits of Dr Felix Culpepper, a Classics tutor at St Wygefortis’ College, Cambridge, and assassin-at-large for the British establishment, was shortlisted for the 2017 People’s Book Prize for Fiction.

Dr Major returned to Culpepper in the illustrated sequel Parricide, described as a labyrinth of stories spanning settings from Oxford and the Scottish isles to the African jungle.
