Exeter College Dining Hall shortlisted for Oxford Preservation Trust Award
Exeter College’s Dining Hall has been shortlisted for an Oxford Preservation Trust (OPT) Award in the Building Conservation category, recognising a new architectural lighting scheme which enhances the historic space while preserving its rich heritage.
The project introduced sensitive new lighting designed to improve both the functionality and character of the Dining Hall, while having minimal impact on its historic fabric. The scheme allows the College to enhance this important and much-loved space while respecting the distinctive architectural character that has developed over its long history.
The project team brought together dpa lighting consultants as Lighting Design Consultants, Jessop and Cook Architects as Architect, and Darke and Taylor as Electrical Contractor. Emma McLeod, Principal Conservation Officer at Oxford City Council, was the Public Authority Officer for the project.
Since 1927, the Oxford Preservation Trust has been dedicated to preserving Oxford’s history and working towards a positive future. Its annual awards recognise projects that make an exceptional contribution to the conservation and positive development of Oxford and its surroundings.
The Dining Hall’s shortlisting continues Exeter College’s recent success at the OPT Awards. In 2024, the transformed Jackson Library received a Building Conservation Plaque, the Trust’s highest level of award. The refurbished Porters’ Lodge and College entrance received a Small Project Plaque in 2022, recognising improvements to accessibility and energy efficiency alongside the preservation of its historic character.
The winners of the 2026 Oxford Preservation Trust Awards will be announced at the awards ceremony on 4 November.
