Exeter College alumni recognised in 2025 King’s Birthday Honours
Two Exeter College alumni have been recognised in the 2025 King’s Birthday Honours for their outstanding contributions to public life in the UK and internationally.
David Webb (1983, Mathematics) has been appointed a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) for services to raising standards of corporate economic governance, particularly in Hong Kong. A former investment banker turned activist shareholder, Webb has spent the past 27 years campaigning for transparency and accountability in Hong Kong’s financial markets through his independent platform, Webb-site.com. On receiving the honour, Webb said:
“I am of course delighted that the UK Government… has chosen to recognise my contributions here… What matters to me most though is how my work is perceived by the people of Hong Kong and beyond… The honour also means a lot to my family, who have supported me so well along this journey.”
Webb, who was a tech entrepreneur before arriving at Exeter, has continued to support the College throughout his life. In 2023, he endowed a new prize for Freshers achieving Distinctions in Prelims, reflecting his lifelong belief in academic excellence.
Also recognised is Robert Noel (1981, Hebrew), who has been appointed a Lieutenant of the Royal Victorian Order (LVO) in recognition of his service as Clarenceux King of Arms. As one of the senior officers of arms at the College of Arms, Noel plays a key role in the heraldic and ceremonial life of the nation. His appointment to the Royal Victorian Order, personally granted by the monarch, reflects distinguished service to the Sovereign.
These honours celebrate two very different but equally distinguished careers, each rooted in a commitment to public service, principled leadership, and excellence and Exeter College wishes the warmest congratulations to both alumni on their achievements.
