Exonian Gabriel Leigh to be Recognised at Encaenia

Exeter College is delighted to share that Gabriel Leigh (2021, Economics and Management) will be recognised for several academic prizes at this year’s Encaenia ceremony, which will take place at the Sheldonian Theatre on Wednesday 25 June.

Last year, Gabriel was awarded the Lubbock Prize for the best overall performance in the BA in Economics and Management, and the Gibbs Prize for the best performance in Economics papers within the degree. He also earned, the Gavin Cameron Memorial Prize for the best performance in Econometrics (across all Economics joint schools), and two John Hicks Foundation Prizes—for best performance in Microeconomics and best performance in Quantitative Economics (both within the Economics and Management programme).

Encaenia is the University of Oxford’s annual ceremony honouring outstanding academic achievement and distinguished service. Gabriel, along with other previous students who have performed exceptionally well in their studies, will be recognised during the ceremony. During the ceremony, the University of Oxford awards honorary degrees to distinguished men and women, which this year include politician and New Zealand’s 40th Prime Minister, the Rt Hon Dame Jacinda Ardern; broadcaster, author and parliamentarian Lord Melvyn Bragg; and athlete, humanitarian, and TV personality Sir Mo Farah. You can read more about the Encaenia ceremony here and view the full list of honorary degree recipients here.

Exeter College warmly congratulates Gabriel on this richly deserved recognition.
