Supernumerary Fellows recognised in University of Oxford’s Recognition of Distinction Awards
Exeter College is delighted to announce that Supernumerary Fellows Professor Sarah Howles and Professor Katherine Bull have been awarded the title of Associate Professor in the University of Oxford’s most recent Recognition of Distinction awards.
Professor Sarah Howles is a Wellcome Trust Clinical Career Development Fellow and Honorary Consultant Urological Surgeon at the Churchill Hospital, Oxford. Her research focuses on kidney stone disease, a prevalent condition affecting nearly one in ten adults. Professor Howles’ group uses large scale data and laboratory techniques to define causal variants and biological pathways that commonly cause kidney stones. Her long-term goal is to develop improved strategies to stop kidney stones forming and establish a precision medicine framework kidney stone disease.
Professor Katherine Bull is a group leader in the Centre for Human Genetics and an Honorary Consultant Nephrologist in the Oxford Kidney Unit. Her research seeks to connect clinical genetics with molecular understanding in kidney diseases by studying human kidney tissue, and developing in vitro and in vivo models. She focuses on immune mediated kidney disease including IgA nephropathy, lupus kidney disease and primary focal segmental glomeruloscerosis, the latter a rare disease that can recur post transplantation. Her work aims to change the way we understand these diseases by defining interactions that drive disease at the level of individual cells within the kidney. The aim is to improve diagnostics, predict outcomes and treatment responses, and identify new targets for more effective, safer treatments.
The Recognition of Distinction Scheme is an annual University exercise that confers the title of Associate Professor to individuals demonstrating excellence in research, teaching, and service.
Exeter College extends its warmest congratulations to Professors Howles and Bull on this significant achievement.
