Sir Philip Pullman, CBE, MA DLitt Oxf, FRSL
Philip Pullman is a British novelist best known for his fantasy trilogy His Dark Materials, for which he was awarded the Carnegie Medal. This series of books is partly set in the fictional Jordan College, which bears more than a passing resemblance to Exeter College, where the author read English.
In 2008 he was named one of the ’50 greatest British writers since 1945′ by The Times, and in a 2004 poll conducted by the BBC was ranked 11th most influential person in British culture. He was elected an Honorary Fellow of Exeter College in 2004. In 2019 he was knighted for services to literature.
