I hold a BA in Humanities with a major in Hispanic Linguistics from the Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú and a Ph.D. in Hispanic Literature and Literary Theory from the Universidad de Navarra (Spain). Since 2008, I have been an associate professor at UiT The Arctic University of Norway (Tromsø), where I am responsible for courses in Spanish and Latin American literature and culture. I am also a member of GRISO (Grupo de Investigación Siglo de Oro), where I have conducted various research activities related to 17th-century Spanish texts. Previously, I had been a visiting fellow at the Escuela de Estudios Hispanoamericanos (CSIC, Seville, Spain, 2014) and the Universidad Complutense de Madrid (2018).
Research
My research mainly focuses on Golden Age literature in both Spain and Latin America (commonly referred to as colonial literature). Specifically, it involves philological editing as well as the historical, cultural, and literary study of texts produced during the 17th century, with a particular emphasis on the works of the poet Juan del Valle y Caviedes (1645–1698). I am currently working on the edition of his three burlesque mythological poems.
In addition, I am collecting textual materials (poems, official documents, private letters, chronicles, diaries, etc.) for a future study on the historical and social context of the city of Lima during the final decades of the 17th century. This research focuses on three key subjects related to the literary work of Juan del Valle y Caviedes: ethnic conflicts, references to attacks on the Peruvian coast by English, French and Dutch pirates, and descriptions of natural disasters, including the 1687 earthquake in Lima.
