A former investment banker turned activist shareholder, David has spent nearly three decades campaigning for transparency and accountability in Hong Kong’s financial markets through his independent platform, Webb-site.com. In 2025, he was recognised in the King’s Birthday Honours, appointed a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) for services to raising standards of corporate and economic governance, particularly in Hong Kong.
David has made significant philanthropic contributions to the College. In 2008, he established the Exeter College Incentive Scheme, through which he has contributed hundreds of thousands of pounds in unrestricted support to the College in recognition of student attainment in Finals. In 2023 he established the David M. Webb Prize for Academic Excellence, which is awarded to undergraduates achieving Firsts or Distinctions in their first-year exams. Most recently he has permanently endowed the College’s first Tutorial Fellowship in Computer Science.
