Exeter College Online Tutorial Programme: Frequently Asked Questions

Who can apply?
Anyone, anywhere in the world who is enrolled in a degree programme, has completed at least one year of study and has a GPA of 3.5/4.0 (or equivalent). If you have any questions about your eligibility, please get in touch.

How do I apply?
You will need to complete our short online application, return a Tutorial application form and submit a transcript, reference and application fee. Once complete, you can expect to hear from us with our decision within 1 week.

When do I apply?
There will be strong competition for places and it can take time to pair you with a tutor, so we strongly recommend applying early.

What supporting documents are required?
You will need to send us a transcript, reference and an Exeter Oxford Tutorial Programme form.

Is there a minimum GPA requirement?
The entry mark for this Programme is 3.5/4.0 Don’t worry if your university uses a different grading system, you are still welcome to apply. We are experienced in this area and will make our decision based on your grades and the system your university uses.

What is the English language requirement?
You will need the same high level of English language proficiency as for undergraduates at Oxford, details of which can be found here; https://www.ox.ac.uk/admissions/undergraduate/applying-to-oxford/for-international-students/ELR

What subjects can I study?
So long as it is taught at the University of Oxford, almost anything! You can select either from our list of topics or propose your own. Please keep in mind, our Online Summer Tutorials are subject to the availability of an expert.

Is there a timetable?
You will be working 1-to-1 with your tutor and your ‘timetable’ will be personal to you. There will be time in between tutorials for you to prepare, so you can expect to  meet your tutor once or twice a week. Once we have paired you with your tutor, they will schedule your tutorials with you at times to suit you both.

Who will my tutor be?
We will be looking for academics in Oxford who are experts in your chosen field. Your proposal will inform and guide this process, so it is very important that you complete this with due care and attention.

Can I request a tutor?
You may request a certain tutor in your application form. However, there is no guarantee they will agree (this may be because they are busy or away conducting field research, for example). Please do not approach the academic yourself.

Will I get credit for my tutorial?
The University of Oxford and its constituent Colleges, of which Exeter is one, is not a credit degree awarding University. However, our tutorials usually receive 3-4 US credits (or 7.5 ECTS). If you would like help transferring credit home, please get in touch.
