Exeter College, part of the University of Oxford, is seeking to appoint a part-time Management Accountant to work as part of their small and busy Accounts team.

This is a 2-year fixed-term post, until 31 August 2027, and the postholder will provide cover for some of the duties of the Deputy Bursar whilst he is part-seconded to work on a new land development project.

The Management Accountant will play a vital role in supporting the College’s financial management, with responsibilities that include:

  • Preparing monthly management accounts and reports for budget holders
  • Monitoring budgets, analysing variances, and providing strategic insights
  • Supporting cashflow forecasting and year-end audit processes
  • Overseeing regulatory returns including VAT and PAYE
  • Acting as a key point of contact across departments, delivering financial guidance
  • Contributing to systems improvements, reporting enhancements, and ad-hoc projects

This position also offers the opportunity to deputise for the Deputy Bursar and/or Assistant Accountant when needed.

We are looking for someone who is a full or part-qualified accountant (e.g. CIMA, ACCA, CIPFA), or who has equivalent professional experience. You should also be skilled in financial analysis, reporting, and process improvement; proficient with modern accounting systems and Excel; an excellent communicator who can engage with non-financial colleagues; and comfortable working independently and as part of a team.

Experience in the education or charity sector, or knowledge of the collegiate University system, is desirable but not essential.

You will work 21 hours per week, although there is some flexibility about exact working patterns. You will be paid within a range £38,674 – £46,913 per annum (pro-rata), depending on experience, skills and qualifications. Benefits include a generous annual leave entitlement, contributory pension, a free lunch whilst on duty, and optional membership of private dental and/ or healthcare schemes.

The College supports flexible and/or home working, and is also keen to invest in supporting its staff to obtain relevant qualifications to enable them to develop their career.
