Exeter College is one of the oldest colleges within the University of Oxford, with two residential sites in central Oxford.

These are busy premises, which (in addition to being student residences) host many of the College’s meetings, as well as commercial conferences and summer schools, and private dinners and events. The College is therefore, a vibrant and exciting place to work, and the Lodge Receptionist team is key to providing a professional, customer-focused and welcoming service to all students, staff and visitors.

We are currently seeking a Lodge Receptionist (Relief) to deliver this service. Typical duties will include: welcoming guests and dealing with enquiries (in-person and by phone); handling check-in/ check-out procedures (including issuing room keys); overseeing the safety and security of the sites at night; acting as a first point of contact in emergencies; taking payments; and booking rooms on the Kinetics database.

This is a busy, customer-facing role, and it is therefore essential that you have excellent verbal communication skills, and a naturally friendly and helpful nature. You should also be hands-on in approach, with the ability to manage a varied workload under minimal supervision, and a willingness to work flexibly and collaboratively as part of the wider team. Experience in a busy, customer-facing role is essential, whilst experience of working night shifts in a similar residential environment would be an advantage but is not essential.

The salary for this post will be within the region £27,838 – £31,459 per annum. In addition, the College offers a range of benefits including a generous annual leave allowance, access to contributory pension scheme and discounted healthcare/ dental schemes, and a free meal whilst on duty.

The post will work an average of 39 hours per week, across a 4-week period. There is no fixed rota pattern for Lodge Receptionists: rather, the postholder will cover a mix of day and night shifts (including at weekends) according to the needs of the College.
