Exeter College proposes, if there are suitable candidates, to appoint two Stipendiary Lecturers in Mathematics. These are fixed-term roles, tenable from 1 October 2025 until 30 September 2026.

[The College will, alternatively, consider appointing one person to cover both posts as a single Lecturership, if there is a suitable candidate. Applicants should feel free to indicate this preference as part of their application.]

Each Lecturer will be required to undertake 72 ‘weighted’ hours per annum of tutorial or class teaching of undergraduates for the College (or, by exchange, undergraduates of other Colleges). In addition, they will be required to set and mark College examinations, and to participate fully in the undergraduate Admissions process and Access/ Outreach activities, and in the running of Mathematics within the College.

The Stipendiary Lecturers will, between them, give tutorials and revision classes on the following topics:

  • Linear Algebra I and II (Year 1)
  • Prelims Groups and Group Actions (Year 1)
  • Rings and Modules (Year 2)
  • Topology (Year 2)
  • Short Pure Maths topics (Year 2)

The ability to teach further papers may be an advantage.

It is anticipated that the two postholders will be able to teach different areas of the Mathematics syllabus from each other, and we will seek to appoint on the basis that the two postholders will specialize in different areas from each other.

The salary for each post will be within a range £8,284 – £9,154 per annum. In addition, a range of other generous benefits are available.
