Alan Bennett publishes anthology of poetry

Alan Bennett (1954, Modern History) has edited an anthology of poetry that will be published in October.

Six Poets: Hardy to Larkin: An Anthology is a selection of English verse by Mr Bennett’s favourite poets, accompanied by his own enlivening commentary.

The book includes more than 70 poems by six well-loved poets, discussing the writers and their verse through anecdote, shrewd appraisal and spare but telling biographical detail. Speaking with candour about his own reactions to the work, Mr Bennett creates profound and witty portraits of Thomas Hardy, A. E. Housman, John Betjeman, W. H. Auden, Louis MacNeice and Philip Larkin.
