Alex Urwin (2015, PPE) to publish biography of Oxford United legend Mickey Lewis

Exeter alumnus Alex Urwin (2015, PPE) will publish his latest book, Mad Dog: The Mickey Lewis Story, in February.  

Drawing on more than 100 interviews, Alex and his writing partner, Leo Ackerman (2017, Somerville), have put together Mad Dog, an exploration of the life and leadership of the late Mickey Lewis (1965 – 2021), one of English football’s most combative midfielders who then became an inspirational coach.  

Following a career which spanned two decades and 400 games, Mad Dog covers Mickey Lewis’s legendary playing career at Oxford United and his later career as a coach, impacting and shaping many young players no matter if he was in Iowa as part of the burgeoning American soccer scene, at Wembley with Oxford United, or in the dugout for nearly 20 Varsity Matches at the helm of Oxford University’s Blues team. 

Mad Dog: The Mickey Lewis Story will be published with Pitch Publishing Ltd on 3 February 2025 and is available to pre-order from Waterstones and other booksellers now.
