Alumna Amanda McDonald publishes autobiography, The Miracle Lady

Five years after being told she had just months to live, Amanda McDonald has published her autobiography, The Miracle Lady.

Amanda McDonald read English at Exeter College, matriculating in 1991. After graduation she worked in marketing, heading up an advertising agency for over a decade. But in November 2013 she was diagnosed with breast cancer, which spread to her brain. In October 2015 she was told the cancer was terminal and that she had just ‘months to live’.

Amanda defied the prognosis and during the UK’s first lockdown in 2020 she wrote her autobiography, The Miracle Lady. It’s a quirky, funny and sometimes grim account of her life, including her cancer journey. It also covers her memorable years at Exeter College.

The Miracle Lady has received glowing reviews from readers. ‘An absolute emotional rollercoaster from start to finish,’ wrote Philippa Rimmer. ‘Amanda is only in her forties, but seems to have lived nine lives already. Without wanting to give away any spoilers, Amanda’s cancer journey has to be read to be believed.’
