Alumni from 1995-1999 enjoy Gaudy

The Rector was delighted to meet alumni from 1995-1999 on Saturday as he welcomed them back to the College for their Gaudy. After tea in the Lodgings, many alumni headed off to the pub to watch the Rugby or just caught up with friends in the College.

During the dinner, the Rector spoke about how much he has enjoyed his first year in post and his desire to be ambitious for the College in the years ahead. He expressed his pride in the support that alumni have shown Exeter – the most supported College outside of the USA – and thanked those present for the support that they had shown in the past which has enabled so much to be achieved over recent years. He then introduced the Gaudy Speaker for the evening, Matthew Hancock MP (1996, PPE) who spoke with passion and humour about memories of College life. He closed his speech in praising Exeter for being such an inclusive and welcoming College which had shaped his and his peers lives, and encouraged everyone present to be actively engaged in making sure that all those who gained a place at Exeter were able to take up their place, regardless of their background or circumstances.

The evening closed with alumni descending to the bar before heading into Oxford to rediscover old haunts and investigate new ones.

The next ‘Grand Gaudy’ for the 1995-1999 year group will be in June 2020.
