Although Graduate students conduct their research in their department, they are also integral members of the Exeter College community and contribute greatly to its academic discourse and familial atmosphere.
The College plays a key role in supporting graduate students during their time at Oxford. All graduate students have a College Adviser, drawn from amongst Exeter’s Fellows, and are welcome to approach the Academic Dean for advice and support too. Each year every graduate student has the opportunity to meet with the Rector (the head of the College) and the Academic Dean to discuss their progress. Graduates are also members of Exeter’s welcoming Middle Common Room, and the College comes together as an academic community for seminars and discussions. These include popular events such as subject family dinners, at which graduate students discuss their research with undergraduates and Fellows in their field.
