Art by Dr Helen Leith Spencer raises over £700 for ExVac

The sale of art by Exeter Fellow in English, Dr Helen Leith Spencer, at an event to mark her departure from Exeter College, has raised over £700 for Exeter’s student-run charity, ExVac.

Dr Spencer will leave Exeter College in the summer, after 27 years of service. To mark her departure the College held an informal farewell dinner accompanied by a talk from Dr Spencer and an exhibition of some of her art, which she creates in her free time. The art was available to purchase, with all proceeds going to ExVac.

Afterwards Dr Spencer said: ‘My warm thanks to all who came to the art show on 28 May in the Rector’s Drawing Room and supported my work, as well as for the encouragement and constructive comment everyone gave me. Particular thanks are due to the Rector and Bursar for their advice and generosity, as well as to the Steward and the brilliant staff who provided such a wonderful supper and gave help with the setting up.

‘I’m delighted to say that the event has raised £710 for ExVac, which I think can fairly be called a success, and I hope will be a useful contribution to their excellent work. I hope everyone enjoyed themselves – I certainly did!’
