BBC documentary on George Gilbert Scott to air tonight

A BBC documentary about the Gilbert Scott family, including George Gilbert Scott, architect of Exeter College’s chapel, library and Rector’s lodgings, will air on BBC Four this evening.

Dan Cruickshank and The Family that Built Gothic Britain will be broadcast at 9pm on 21 October. It is the triumphant and tragic story of one of the greatest architectural dynasties of the 19th century. Dan Cruickshank charts the rise of Sir George Gilbert Scott to the heights of success, the fall of his son George Junior, and the rise again of his grandson Giles. It is a story of architects bent on a mission to rebuild Britain; a family that shaped the Victorian age and left a giant legacy.

The documentary features Exeter College’s chapel prominently.
