Bodleian exhibits Alan Bennett’s (1954, Modern History) literary papers

To celebrate Alan Bennett’s (1954, Modern History) 80th birthday the Bodleian Library has created an exhibition of his literary papers, which will be on display until 7 September.

Alan Bennett gave his literary papers to the Bodleian in 2008, describing the gift as ‘an obligation repaid [for his free state education]. I see this gift … as some small recompense both to the University and also to the state.’

The papers form a display called ‘Alan Bennett: History Boy’, which is being held in the Proscholium. Admission is free.

Alan Bennett is launching the exhibition with a public conversation with fellow Exonian David Vaisey (1956, History), formerly Bodley’s Librarian. The conversation will be held in the Holywell Music Room on 7 August.
