Dr Abigail Dunn publishes Swallow the Toad: From Britain to Germany

Exeter alumna Dr Abigail Dunn (2005, DPhil Medieval and Modern Languages) has recently published Swallow the Toad: From Britain to Germany, an amusing light read about the German mindset.

Dr Dunn has been living and working in Germany since 2012 and thanks to a love of books and reading, she chose to start drafting her own book.

Swallow the Toad is an autobiographical work that tells of the trials and tribulations of living and working in Germany as Dr Dunn takes the reader on a journey to a place full of chaos, confusion, and contradictions.

Pierre Tosi, a reviewer on Waterstones, praised the book: “Fantastic book. I have been living in Germany for a lot of years and in these pages, I found all the German vices that I myself have since observed. The persistent myths of ‘Teutonic’ fairness, punctuality, efficiency, and technological advancement are effectively debunked. The tone is humorous and ironic. You decide to read a couple of chapters and end up reading the whole book.”

Swallow the Toad: From Britain to Germany was published by The Choir Press and is available to purchase from Waterstones and other booksellers now.
