Emperor Akihito of Japan awards Professor Joseph Nye (1958, PPE) Order of the Rising Sun

Emperor Akihito of Japan has awarded Professor Joseph Nye (1958, PPE) the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold and Silver Star. Professor Nye received the prestigious honour at the Imperial Palace on 5 November 5 in recognition of his “contribution to the development of studies on Japan-US security and to the promotion of the mutual understanding between Japan and the United States.”

The Order of the Rising Sun was established by Emperor Meiji in 1875. The Order was the first national decoration awarded by the Japanese Government.
