Equity, Diversity and Inclusion

Exeter College welcomes diversity among its staff, students, alumni and visitors, recognising the particular contributions to the achievement of the College’s mission which can be made by individuals from a wide range of backgrounds and experiences.

We aim to provide an inclusive environment which promotes equity, values diversity and maintains a working, learning and social environment in which the rights and dignity of all our staff and students are respected, to assist them in reaching their full potential. We will work to remove any barriers which might deter people of the highest potential and ability from applying to the College, either as staff or students.

This page provides more information about our approach to equity, diversity and inclusion, and about the policies that we have implemented to support this.

In addition, in 2024 the College agreed the following new Equality Objectives:

  • To identify and implement a training programme for line managers to increase their awareness and confidence in supporting neurodivergent staff within their teams. The College aims to implement this by December 2025.
  • To raise awareness and understanding of the menopause within the College and identify ways to engage with and support members of staff, including a menopause policy and training for line managers. The College aims to implement this by December 2025.

In identifying these new objectives, the College was mindful that its previous objectives have now largely been successfully embedded into normal College business. Whilst these practices continue to be of high importance to the College, our new objectives give an opportunity to focus on other important areas as we continue to invest in a diverse and inclusive culture to promote a sense of belonging throughout the College.

The two published Equality Objectives are staff related objectives; however, the College will focus on publishing student related objectives in 2025.
