Bannister Community Mile
On Bank Holiday Monday, 6th May 2024, the University will be celebrating the 70th anniversary of the late Sir Roger Bannister (1946, Physiological Sciences and Honorary Fellow) running the first sub-four-minute mile, with an event focused on celebrating Bannister’s legacy of not just elite performance but his focus on the benefits of sport for all. Event overview
The Community Mile is a mass event, open to all abilities and ages from six and above. The course will start on St Aldate’s and proceed down the High Street, crossing Magdalen Bridge before finishing on Iffley Road, where finisher medals will be presented. The cost is £15pp (group entry available).
All are welcome, regardless of ability or running experience! Later in the day, there will also be a series of high-calibre track races at Iffley Road Track, with food and drink stalls on site, which all are welcome to attend.
Joining the Exeter College group

- Click the ‘register in group’ option
- Join the ‘Exeter College’ group by entering the group password, Exeter1314
- Once you have joined the group, click the ‘sign up’ button at the top of the page and enter yourself individually
By joining the same group, colleagues and friends will get to start together in the same wave. There will also be a prize for the college with the biggest turnout relative to size!
