Exeter alumni re-elected to parliament
Exeter alumni Matthew Hancock (1996, PPE) and Nick Hurd (1981, Literae Humaniores) have been re-elected to serve as the Members of Parliament for West Suffolk and Ruislip, Northwood and Pinner respectively.
Matthew Hancock took 52.2% of the votes in Suffolk West, up 1.6% from 2010 and 30.5% ahead of second-placed Julian Flood of UKIP. He has now been appointed Minister for the Cabinet Office and Paymaster General. His role includes responsibility for the civil service, public sector efficiency and reform, public sector industrial relations, government transparency, cybersecurity, and civil society.
Nick Hurd received 59.6% of the votes in Ruislip, Northwood and Pinner, up 2.1% from 2010 and 39.5% ahead of runner-up Michael Borio of the Labour Party.
