Exeter alumni take on Christmas University Challenge

Christmas University Challenge is back for its 12th series this year, and this time there will be some familiar faces on our screens. Whilst Exeter’s students are hopefully enjoying a well-earned break over the holiday period, four of the College’s distinguished alumni will be taking on the festive challenge, with Jeremy Paxman asking the questions.

The alumni representing Exeter College with their fingers on buzzers are Alexander Watson (1997, History), Professor of History at Goldsmiths, University of London; Sanchia Berg (1982, English), an award-winning correspondent for the BBC; Andy Anson (1983, Mathematics), CEO of the British Olympic Association and chair of Lancashire Cricket Club; and their team captain, Reeta Chakrabarti (1984, English and French), BBC newsreader and correspondent, and Chancellor of York St John University. Since graduating from Exeter in their respective years, these four alumni have gone on to great success in their fields and earned themselves a spot on the Exeter College Christmas University Challenge team.

Exeter College will be taking on Queen Mary University of London. The episode will be broadcast on BBC Two on Thursday 22 December at 7.30 pm and available in the UK on BBC iPlayer. Don’t forget to tune in to get into the Christmas spirit, cheer Exeter on, and find out if the talented team led by Reeta can take a place in the semi-finals. We wish them the best of luck!
