Exeter alumnus publishes Noble Sentiments for an Exile

Exeter alumnus Dr Stephen Pax Leonard (2004, General Linguistics and Comparative Philology) has recently published Noble Sentiments for an Exile and Other Writings, an anthology of meditations on language, travel, and spirituality.

A linguistic anthropologist, Dr Leonard compiled the anthology over a period of ten years of travel in Russia, Scandinavia, and the former Soviet Republics.

Exeter alumna Cosima Gillhammer (2010, English), a career development fellow at Lady Margaret Hall, praised the book: “This is a beautiful book. Stephen Pax Leonard’s collection of vignettes and short stories takes us on a captivating journey through different cultures and languages from Greenland to Georgia, exploring how sound shapes our experience of the world. Evocative, haunting, lyrical, and often moving, these stories capture the sounds of many voices and resonate deeply. This is a book to be savoured slowly. It stayed with me long after I had finished the last page.”

Noble Sentiments for an Exile was published by Wipf and Stock on 26 November.
