Exeter appoints Professor Conall MacNiocaill to the Giuseppe Vernazza Fellowship
Exeter is delighted to announce the appointment of Professor Conall MacNiocaill to the Giuseppe Vernazza Fellowship in Earth Sciences.
This is a new fellowship, created through the generosity of alumnus Mike Coleman (1979, Geology) and named in memory of his Italian grandfather who was born in Albareto in 1892, serving with the Italian Cavalry in the Italo–Turkish war of 1912 and in the First World War before emigrating to England and settling in St Helens as an ice cream manufacturer and seller.
His generosity enables the College to appoint a second Fellow in Earth Sciences alongside Professor Karin Sigloch, in line with the College’s strategic plan to secure at least two Fellows in each subject we offer wherever possible.
Professor MacNiocaill has received teaching awards from the University of Oxford Student Union and has been awarded the title of Professor by the University because of his academic distinction.
