Exeter College Choir features in BBC Radio 3’s ‘Composer of the Week’

On Monday 31 October BBC Radio 3’s ‘Composer of the Week’ programme featured a recording of Exeter College’s very own choir. On the last day of Black History Month the radio programme featured the works of Samuel Coleridge-Taylor, including a recording of his Magnificat in F Major, Op. 18, released by Exeter College choir in 2021. The recording was taken from Exeter College Choirs most recent Christmas CD Masters in this Hall: Carols Ancient and Modern which was released last Christmas and features favourite carols, motets, and anthems from seven centuries, including Coleridge-Taylor’s ‘Nune dimittis in F Major.’

In the programme host Donald Macleod follows Samuel Coleridge-Taylor’s first steps up the musical ladder, noting his evident early talent and revisiting his story. The show features 5 other recordings of Coleridge-Taylor’s work alongside the recording of Exeter College Choir, and is well worth the listen.

The programme is available on BBC sounds until 29 November, and the recording by Exeter College Choir begins at 23:24. To hear more from Exeter College Choir you can order copies of their most recent CD, Masters in this Hall: Carols Ancient and Modern.
