Exeter College former Rector appointed interim Warden for Rhodes Trust
The Rhodes Trust has announced that Professor Sir Rick Trainor will take on the role of interim Warden in January 2025.
Rector of Exeter College from 2014 to 2024, Sir Rick is a renowned historian and academic leader. His distinguished career spans key roles in Higher Education, including Principal of King’s College London and Vice-Chancellor of the University of Greenwich. Knighted in 2010 for services to social science and higher education, Sir Rick is celebrated for his expertise in modern British and American social history, and his contributions to shaping educational policy.
As interim Warden, Sir Rick will guide the Trust’s efforts to motivate the next generation of global leaders through the Rhodes Scholarship programme. His leadership promises to build on the Trust’s enduring legacy of fostering academic excellence and international collaboration, which he was a part of as a Rhodes Scholar himself.
Sir Rick succeeds Dr Elizabeth Kiss, who was the first woman to hold the position of Warden at the Rhodes Trust.
Upon accepting his appointment, Sir Rick said, “As a Rhodes Scholar myself, the Scholarships and the Trust have been of great interest to me for a very long time.”
