Exeter College takes part in RSPB’s Big Schools Birdwatch with Twinned Primary School

On Friday 24 January, we had an exciting event with our Twinned Primary School, John Henry Newman Academy. This event was part of the RSPB’s Big Schools’ Birdwatch, and we invited the Year 5 students to visit Exeter College and see what birds they could spot in our Fellows’ Garden, led by our fantastic Sustainability Officer, Juliet Tye. The children had fun spotting birds, including wood pigeons, bluetits, magpies, blackbirds and, apparently, even a golden eagle!

This was not the only thing in store for the pupils. Other activities on the day included bird bingo, where the students learnt a range of British birds, a treasure hunt with a whole host of fun bird facts, and a ‘create your own bird’ crafting activity. The students were very creative and created a whole range of birds from cardboard and feathers, from Blue Tits to 10-eyed fantastical creatures.

This was the first time running this event with our link Primary School and we look forward to more events in the future.
