Exeter College to award Black Academic Futures Scholarship
As part of Exeter College’s commitment to attracting the very best students, including those from groups historically under-represented in the student body, we are delighted to announce that in the 2022-23 academic year we will offer a new scholarship: the Black Academic Futures Scholarship. The scholarship will cover course fees and provide a grant of at least £15,609 per year to cover living expenses.
The Black Academic Futures Scholarship is available for applicants who are ordinarily resident in the United Kingdom, who are of black or mixed-black ethnicity and who hold an offer for either a taught or a research postgraduate degree, starting in the 2022-23 academic year.
To apply for the Black Academic Futures Scholarship, applicants simply need to submit their completed graduate course application, including ethnicity information, by either the December or January deadline (whichever is relevant for their course) and they will automatically be considered.
Students of black and mixed-black ethnicity have historically been underrepresented at Exeter College and the University of Oxford, and it is hoped that Black Academic Futures Scholarships will help to encourage more applications and make postgraduate study accessible to more students. By doing so, we can ensure we are attracting the brightest and best students and that all Exonians benefit from living and studying in a community filled with diverse perspectives.
Exeter College has committed to funding a Black Academic Futures Scholarship for at least four years, and it is hoped that through philanthropic support from alumni and friends of the College it will be possible to sustain the scholarship further.
