Exeter Fellow Dr Aarti Jagannath delivers Royal Institution lecture on circadian rhythms
Dr Aarti Jagannath, Supernumerary Fellow at Exeter College and Associate Professor at Oxford’s Nuffield Department of Clinical Neurosciences, delivered a public lecture at the Royal Institution in London on 7 April 2025. Her talk, titled “Setting the Body Clock to the Right Time,” explored the science of circadian rhythms and their impact on human health.
Drawing on her research at the Sleep and Circadian Neuroscience Institute, Dr Jagannath explained how our internal clocks are influenced by environmental cues such as light and behaviour. She discussed the consequences of disrupted circadian rhythms, common in modern 24/7 lifestyles, and offered insights into how these disruptions can be addressed.
The lecture was part of the Royal Institution’s long-standing tradition of public science talks, which have featured renowned figures like Michael Faraday and James Dewar. Dr Jagannath’s participation underscores her contributions to the field of chronobiology and her commitment to public science communication.
A recording of the lecture is available on the Royal Institution’s YouTube channel.
