Exeter honours excellence with Scholars’ Dinner
Exeter College’s annual Scholars’ Dinner took place recently, celebrating all those within research, teaching, scholarship, and service who have achieved excellence.
Students from across the College enjoyed a three-course formal dinner, while Rector Dr Andrew Roe congratulated them all for being there. He said: “This is a really wonderful occasion, and it is a pleasure and honour for me to be with you all this evening. You are a shining example of what makes Exeter so special.” Students were honoured for academic excellence – including first class degrees, distinctions, University and subject prizes – and for excellence in extracurricular activities such as sport, choir, drama, charitable work, and student leadership. Exeter College prizes both academic and extracurricular achievements, with excellence being especially important in an academic institution which aims to help its members and wider community achieve their very best. “Such excellence is good because it provides great satisfaction mastering difficult problems, imposing order on chaos, injecting your own insights and creativity, accomplishing goals, cultivating key skills of analysis, expression and leadership,” Rector Roe said.
Some students were returning to Exeter College since graduating and found the chance to be back within college walls and celebrating with their peers a meaningful occasion. Freddie Crichton-Miller (2021, English Language and Literature) said of the event, “The night was really special, the new Rector made a great speech after dessert, and we all had a great time reuniting at Exeter!”.
Congratulations to everyone that was celebrated at the event, Exeter College couldn’t be prouder of the successes you have achieved. Floreat Exon!
