Exeter students gain Blues in Women’s Varsity Rugby
Two Exeter students represented the University of Oxford in the Women’s Varsity Rugby at Twickenham last week.
Melissa Grant (2012, Earth Sciences) and Helen Potts (2015, Pharmacology) played on the left and right wings respectively. Fellow Exonian Rachel Wilcock (2012, Earth Sciences) was a reserve member of the squad.
In the first Women’s Varsity Rugby match to be played at Twickenham, Oxford resisted considerable early pressure from Cambridge, but on 15 minutes their defence was breached for Cambridge to score their first of eight tries. Oxford fought bravely to keep the score to 12-0 at half-time, but in the second half Cambridge opened the flood gates and ran in a further six tries to win emphatically 52-0. Oxford came close to scoring a deserved consolation try in the dying moments of the match, but the Cambridge defence held firm.
