Exeter students travel to Cambridge for annual Sports Day with sister college Emmanuel College
Members of the Exeter JCR and MCR travelled to Cambridge on Saturday 9 May for a Sports Day with our sister college, Emmanuel College. The day began with an early departure from Turl Street at 7:30am, with the group arriving in Cambridge later that morning. Sporting activities took place at the Emmanuel playing grounds and included Women’s Football, Men’s Football, Mixed Touch Rugby, Mixed Lacrosse, Mixed Netball, and Mixed Tennis. Although Emmanuel secured victories in most of the fixtures, Exeter students brought enthusiasm, energy, and camaraderie throughout the day.
In the early afternoon, the group walked into central Cambridge for a barbecue at Emmanuel College. The afternoon featured a variety of more informal activities, including primary school sports, volleyball, and time spent enjoying Emmanuel’s outdoor pool. Students also had the opportunity to explore central Cambridge before returning to college to get ready for the evening.
Pre-dinner drinks were held in Emmanuel’s Old Library, followed by a formal dinner in the College’s beautiful dining hall alongside Emmanuel students. The evening continued in the college bar, before some students departed on the early coach back to Oxford in order to take part in the Town & Gown 10k for ExVac the following morning. Others enjoyed a longer evening in Cambridge before returning in the early hours.
The trip was an excellent opportunity not only to enjoy a day of sport and social activities, but also to strengthen ties with students at our sister college and experience the beauty of Cambridge. We look forward to welcoming Emmanuel students to Exeter for a rematch in the future.
