Exeter takes over Radio 4!

Exonians recently took over the airwaves on BBC Radio 4’s PM programme with Eddie Mair. Exeter Fellow in Engineering Science, Professor Michael Osborne, and alumnus Matt Hancock MP (1996, PPE), Minister of State for Digital, joined their host Eddie Mair and fellow panelist Dr Sandra Wachter,¬†Postdoctoral Researcher in Data Ethics and Algorithms at the Oxford Internet Institute, for a discussion about job automation and the future of jobs.

The discussion is available to listen to online until 10 December 2017 by clicking here. Eddie Mair introduces the discussion at around 34 minutes and 40 seconds and the discussion begins at around 37 minutes and 30 seconds into the programme.

Among the many points discussed, the panelists agree that technological change is inevitable and presents new opportunities, and that it is essential that people adapt and develop new skills to keep up with the job market.
